Is there a school more BASHED on the Internet than UoP ????? Yet some that bash NoCentral think (guess they can think) it is ok to "teach" at UoP. Yeah, sure....whatever.
I see that NCU managed to escape with the minimum 3-year accreditation renewal. That's really a kick in the shorts for everyone. It's just a step above probation, but it's not probation. Clearly this is a place with problems, and I'm glad I'm not a student there or I'd be wondering whether I'd just invested in some hot air.
But you make a good point about how some of the most reviled RA schools seem to be the most distance learning oriented.? I suspect the reason UoP relies so heavily on the unpopular "learning team" concept is that some accreditation team diagnosed independent study as a "weakness" in the program, so they over-compensated. It does make it difficult for socialist profs to indoctrinate the mush brains if they can't apply peer pressure.
On the other hand, NCU is a good idea badly executed. A lot of overseas schools have been doing doctorates by distance learning for years without problems. But I don't see a lot of faculty at NCU who earned a doctorate overseas that way, so I suspect they don't have the first clue on how to do it. They are trying to adapt traditional face-to-face methods to the internet. So you get students who, obviously, never did a doctoral program before being led by dementors who never did a distance learning doctoral program before, or a distance learning program of any kind. Predictably, the result is what you would expect for amateur night. I would have expected NCACS to hit this area hard.
