Online LLM from ABA Southwestern
#1
ABA-accredited Southwestern Law School now offers an online version of their LLM in Entertainment & Media Law. Not cheap at $1,297 per unit for the 24 unit program.

Interestingly, the program is offered in "collaboration" with Kaplan Legal Education, which runs DETC but non-ABA accredited Concord Law School.

Nice find, Martin. Interesting how these online LLM programs are beginning to pop up more frequently. As demand drives the market, can the ABA luddites continue to suppress online JD degrees?

Here's another new one for you. University of Denver is now offering an online LLM in tax. This one began in the winter quarter of 2011 (i.e., just this past January).

Tuition is $820 per quarter hour and the program is 45 quarter hours ($36,900). Not cheap, but a degree from the alma mater of Condoleezza Rice could be a good value for the money.

Considering that the ABA moves at the speed of molasses in winter, it's a veritable flood of online LLM programs lately. Here's another:

ABA-accredited John Marshall law school in Atlanta has a new DL LLM in Employment Law. "Exclusively Online" they advertise, but they require a two-day "orientation" in Atlanta. Some things are more exclusive than others, apparently.

Classes are offered consecutively, i.e., one class at a time. In the first two semesters students take four credits by taking two consecutive 2 credit courses. Over the final three semesters students take four credits of course work per semester, and earn an additional four credits through presentation of a thesis.

Tuition is $1075.00 per credit hour for 24 total credit hours.

Unlike Southwestern, no connection to Kaplan Legal Education, but ironically the program director's name is Lisa Kaplan.

Let's see how long before Noseburn steals this and posts it without attribution at DD as if he found it himself.

Interesting that California, hardly a bastion of libertarianism has the mose lenient laws when it comes to taking the Bar Exam.

Would anyone know if there are any other states which allow DL degrees in able to satisfy the educational requirements for the Bar?

Check the ABA Comprehensive Guide to Bar Admission Requirements. Chart 3 (pages 20-21) shows only California, DC, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Vermont as allowing "online study" to take bar exams.

Interesting. I believe that DC seems to have the liberal laws on this issue. Alabama is also very lienient.

Deltak Partners With Boston University to Launch New Online Graduate Law Degree
Education Service Provider to Introduce Second Online Master's Degree Program With University

CHICAGO, IL, Jun 12, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Deltak edu, LLC, a leading provider of online higher education services, is expanding its partnership with Boston University to launch BU's Master of Law degree (LL.M.) in Taxation in an online format. This is the second master's degree program Deltak has introduced online with the University, having launched its Master of Social Work degree in 2011. Boston University's graduate tax program, which was started in 1959 and was among the first of its kind in the country, has been ranked fifth among American law schools offering the program, according to the 2013 edition of U.S. News and World Report's rankings.

Deltak, which has successfully launched more than 100 online degree programs for colleges and universities around the country, will assist Boston University in bringing its enriching LL.M. in Taxation degree online. The program reflects a mastery of the practice, ethics and subtleties of tax law and prepares students for a variety of careers through electives, allowing students to concentrate on courses that allow for exposure to all areas of tax or courses that will prepare them for specialization in a particular area, such as business organizations and transactions; estate planning and wealth management; or international tax. The same quality educational experience offered to on-campus students will now be offered online.

"Boston University is an exceptional institution, and the decision to offer its LL.M. in Taxation online will open the door for recent law school graduates as well as practicing lawyers across the United States and internationally to participate in one of the premier programs in the country," said CEO and President of Deltak Craig Pines. "Deltak is excited to be launching a second online master's degree program with Boston University. We value our partnership with BU, and we look forward to replicating the success of the Master of Social Work by expanding the reach of LL.M. in Taxation program to a broader audience."

"We are excited about partnering with Deltak to support the launch of our new online LL.M. in Taxation," said Maureen A. O'Rourke, Dean and Professor of Law for Boston University School of Law. "Deltak has a proven track record of supporting online programming at Boston University, and we look forward to working together to ensure that interested candidates receive top-notch service, from the moment they inquire about the program to their enrollment."

Online classes for Boston University's LL.M. in Taxation will begin in September 2012. For more information about Boston University's Graduate Tax Program, visit http://www.bu.edu/law/prospective/llm/taxation/
