Dr Chris Swindell Appointed as Official Communist for Marshall University

HUNTINGTON- Enjoying the new-found attention of one of Marshall's professors, administrators acted quickly to capitalize on the media attention. In a Monday morning press conference the university named journalism professor, Dr. Chris Swindell, as the official Communist representative on campus.

What threw Dr. Swindell into the spotlight was his recent Op-Ed in the Charleston Gazette suggesting, among other things, that NRA members deserve to be killed by firing squad for advocating "armed rebellion" against their own government [LINK].

Many took offense over his common sense solution. Some called for his resignation, others demanded that Marshall University terminate his employment [LINK] immediately.

Swindell defended his editorial, "Our founding fathers -- you know the ones who went to war against England? They would roll over in their graves if they knew people were talking about going to war against their own country because of a little tyranny. Tyranny is just a word. If you do what you're told, who's gonna get hurt?"

Critics counter that Swindell himself spoke of rebellion in an October 25th Facebook post where he called for civil unrest if Barack Obama did not win the election. "He closed that post with the Arabic word, 'EnShallah'! Is this guy some kind of Muslim Extremist, too?" asked one Facebook commenter.

Swindell's Op-Ed hit national news sources such as The Drudge Report, Huffington Post and Pravda.

In Monday's press conference, University Officials admitted Swindell has always been a controversial figure, "...but as a journalism professor he exemplifies the heart of main stream news," said Marshall President, Stephen Kopp. "Swindell has the heart of a good Communist. His social activism and a desire to punish conservatives are things we want to instill in all our students -- particularly those studying journalism."

"This is quite an honor," said the normally shy professor, "I'm not a Communist -- not that it's a bad thing. But as a registered Democrat, I understand where they are coming from. I'm proud to represent their viewpoint on the Marshall campus. Just like President Obama, I respect the contributions of communism and socialism in the world."

Swindell's Facebook page [LINK], has several 'favorites' that support his claim. Among them are; 'The Art of War' by Communist China's Sun Tzu, 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra' by socialist Friedrich Nietzsche, 'The Communist Manifesto' the definitive reference guide, and of course, Rachel Maddow.

One would be forgiven for thinking he had been lobbying for the position of Official Campus Communist, all along.

Open Letter Concerning Dr. Chris Swindell's Op-Ed

The following is an open-letter to Dr. Kopp and Dr. Hollis, president and interim j-school dean of Marshall University regarding today's column by Marshall journalism professor Chris Swindell. I hope you will join me in calling for Swindell's termination.

Dr. Kopp; Dr. Hollis:

I am writing today as a double-alumnus of Marshall. I hold my BA from Marshall (1988) and two masters degrees, an MA in Journalism (2001) and an MA in Teaching (2011).

As a graduate of Marshall and a practicing mass communications professional, I am angry at and embarrassed by the Op-Ed published in today's Charleston Gazette by your faculty member Dr. Chris Swindell [LINK].

As a mass communications professional, I cherish the First Amendment but Dr. Swindell's comments -- and this is only the latest in a long line of what can only be called increasingly unhinged commentaries printed in the Charleston Gazette -- not only represent him but also Marshall University and by extension impact the perception of the quality of education at Marshall, the Marshall J-School and the value of my bachelors and masters degrees. For this reason, I call on you to fire Swindell immediately.

For a journalism professor to call for the execution by firing squad of members of the NRA is simply the ravings of an insane man. I shudder to think that this represents in any way the prevailing attitude of the faculty at Marshall or the j-school.

As I noted, this isn't the first offensive op-ed written by Swindell, but it is, for me, the straw that broke the camel's back.

Unless this is done -- and this is not simply an empty threat -- I will publicly burn my diploma from Marshall and publicly call for other graduates to do so as well. I am sure there are a great many other alumni who share my anger. Can you imagine the public relations nightmare for the school for hundreds or thousands of alumni to publicly burn their degrees on live television?

Marshall University needs to be recognized for its provision of quality education to the people of this region. It does NOT need to be represented by the ravings of a mad man.

Sarah Palin is in fact a slow thinking dim-wit, but Swindell is a fast thinking dim-wit. So why do these two get to make the case for anything? Both are, in fact, more mouth than common sense. It's hard to imagine the party of Lincoln, Goldwater, and Eisenhower possibly sinking to the level of a Bouncy piece of tail, Sarah Palin. (She does look good-at least for her age, but there isn't much between the ears.) As for Swindell, too much eduaction and not enough good, hard, physical work. It's a shame that we allow the nurds/duds, and the cheerleaders to lead the debate, but so it seems.

Maybe we need a few more IQ'S around 100-120 and fewer of the 140-160, or in Sarah's case 80-90. Poor thing. I wonder if she can chew gum and walk at the same time, seems unlikely?

Palin was a member of Wasilla High School's Honor Society (min. 3.5 GPA required).

Don't regurgitate that leftist misogyny. I'd match her intellect against Odumbass and Biden combined any day. In fact, I'd take her in a game of horse or best two out of three falls against both those pansies as well.

Biden ranked 506th of 688 in his class at U of Delaware, and 76th of 85 in his class at Syracuse Law, where he plagiarized a law review article.

Of course, we don't know what Odumbass did as a Kenyan/Indonesian foreign/affirmative action student at Occidental, Columbia or Harvard. The $35K bounty for his records is still unclaimed.

BTW, Palin is an NRA Benefactor Life member.
