James Grey/Peter French: Who is this Guy?

He posts as James Grey at degreeboard, but according to other posters there, he is the same guy who posts as Peter French at DD.

A number of things intrigue me about this guy. It seems he has degrees from a number of unaccredited institutions and claims to be an accountant, educator and engineer!!! However, most of his posts are like they've been written by a nearly illiterate person. Other posts he writes though seem to be alright, like they've been written by a different person. Also, in some of his posts he uses a kind of foul language that would not be used publicly by an educator, and which you seldom come across at education discussion forums.

Now, what is really intriguing about this guy is that he has claimed a number of times that he keeps "dossiers" - files containing detailed records - on particular people. I didn't pay any attention at first as I thought he's just another weirdo playing secret agent in his imagination. This until I came across a posting by James Grey/Peter French at DD posted as a reply to a post by Gollin referring to a person with past SRU connections. The post reads as follows: "Thanks for the reference. I'll add that to the dossier I have prepared on John." and you can find it here, http://www.degreediscussion.com/forums/v...f=5&t=5853

No other details or information is provided, it is like only the two of them - Gollin and Grey/French - understand the full meaning of that post. Like a "secret handshake" communication.

A number of disturbing questions are raised here. Does Grey/French actually prepare and keep files, or "dossiers", on people for or on behalf of Gollin? Or, Grey/French is just a paranoid weirdo and Gollin has no idea what he is talking about? I just hope the latter is true in which case Gollin should post a disclaimer stating that he has no knowledge of or involvement of any kind in the "dossiers" Grey/French refers to.

I'm not a legal expert, but I think keeping files with personal details (this is signified by the word "dossier") of people is illegal. Legally, it may also be regarded as a threat or attempt to intimidate when someone states publicly the name of the persons he keeps such files on.

Peter's for real. He's been around a long time. I've considered him a friend but I might have pissed him off one too many times.

He has quite legitimate academic credentials topping out at the masters level in a few fields. He has taught endless courses at Australian universities but the PhD has always eluded him. Some years ago he acquired about 4 doctorates with varying degrees of usefulness but generally does not use them.

Peter and Quinn used to make up the Bipolar Irish Club on education forums. Quinn is crazier but Peter is moodier. I've written Quinn off as totally erratic. Peter might be salvagable.

I like Peter French. He's been around a long time and knows his stuff. I think that his heart is in the right place but he always seems to be trying to curry favor with Drs. Bear and Gollin, which, of course, is never forthcoming. I don't know why but guess it may have something to do with him wanting to be regarded as "the John Bear of Down Under."

I think that he's harmless with respect maintaining "dossiers" on various DL luminaries. After all, other than the 50 or so for whom this is a serious hobby or are making money from it (Douglas, Bear, etc.), who really gives a rat's (or wallaby's) ass? As far as the uneveness of his posts, Peter is an Australian and imbibing a pint or two after work is his birthright. That may account for the markedly different quality of his posts but I certainly don't know that to be a fact. For all I know it could be his blood sugar or the phases of the moon or something completely different?

Peter's dossier - harmless. Peter has had the pleasure of having pre-Gollin types contacting schools where he worked letting them know how bad the doctorates he wasn't using were. It sainz kinda strange but some of the AED/degreeinfo people were/are seriously disturbed like Gollin.

Peter French is a a want-to-be George Brown (who owned a hospitality/hotel diploma mill operation in AU until the authorities shut him down). French usd to brag about his Summit University of Louisiana Ph.D. for years and would spend 70% of his time trying to prove they were not a diploma mill. Peter French has a major anger management issue which is all over the foums any time people don't agree with him and his buttons are very easy to push.

I noticed George Brown is now the AU version of the Oregon ODA. That's a hoot!
