Dr. Craig D. Swenson, President of Argosy University, has been elected to the board of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), effective July 1, 2009. He was elected to a two-year term during the organization's annual board meeting, held April 27-28 in Washington, D.C.

CHEA serves as a national advocate and institutional voice that seeks to maintain the excellence of its 3,000 degree-granting colleges and universities by promoting self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation. The association recognizes 60 institutional and programmatic accrediting organizations.

Dr. Swenson was named President of Argosy University in September 2007. He previously served as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Western Governors University and, prior to that, served for seven years as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs for the University of Phoenix system.

Dr. Swenson received his Bachelor's degree the University of Utah, a Master of Arts degree from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D. from Walden University.

Now this is the sort of guy we like to see holding the wheel at CHEA. He's got a PhD from Walden, a name player in the DL sphere. He's a top admin at Argosy, a uni that is heavy into DL programs, plus he's worked at WGU and UoP, both of whom also are major DL unis. This is clearly a guy who understands non-traditional education and distance learning first hand, both as a student and as an administrator. What a refreshing change of pace from previous picks, such as the self-promoting rat turd who doesn't have the first clue what CHEA does.

Wasn't it at the old Jamesville that somebody asked then newly-elected CHEA board member Gollum about his views on HETA (the CHEA group promoting acceptance of transfer credits among accredited schools)? Gollum said something like "I'll look into it and get back to you." We're still waiting. The guy obviously didn't have a clue what CHEA did or does, and he still doesn't. He is just using it as a resume enhancer for his otherwise non-existent credentials in higher education administration.

It's good that CHEA got a first round draft choice like Swenson, but when are they going to give a fourth string bench warmer like Gollum his unconditional release? They just renewed the guy for another three years. Does he have photos of someone at an office party or something?

That is how reliable 'the system' is: a very mediocre individual whose only field day was on crummy $15/year websites run by gay teen pornographers in the company of deviants, serial millists and other 'funny people' instantly morphs into education supercop...but then, the same happened to arch-millist John Bear...
