Quote:Dr. Craig D. Swenson, President of Argosy University, has been elected to the board of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), effective July 1, 2009. He was elected to a two-year term during the organization's annual board meeting, held April 27-28 in Washington, D.C.Now this is the sort of guy we like to see holding the wheel at CHEA. He's got a PhD from Walden, a name player in the DL sphere. He's a top admin at Argosy, a uni that is heavy into DL programs, plus he's worked at WGU and UoP, both of whom also are major DL unis. This is clearly a guy who understands non-traditional education and distance learning first hand, both as a student and as an administrator. What a refreshing change of pace from previous picks, such as the self-promoting rat turd who doesn't have the first clue what CHEA does.
CHEA serves as a national advocate and institutional voice that seeks to maintain the excellence of its 3,000 degree-granting colleges and universities by promoting self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation. The association recognizes 60 institutional and programmatic accrediting organizations.
Dr. Swenson was named President of Argosy University in September 2007. He previously served as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Western Governors University and, prior to that, served for seven years as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs for the University of Phoenix system.
Dr. Swenson received his Bachelor's degree the University of Utah, a Master of Arts degree from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D. from Walden University.
