Update on the CCNH website:
Quote:July 20, 2010

Teach Out:
We received a commitment from a very capable educator who will coordinate a limited teach-out program. She just committed to the project on Monday afternoon, so we’re not able to offer details on when the teach-out will commence and the mechanics of how it will be handled.

We are going to try to teach out as many students as possible, but given the college’s limited resources, teaching out everyone may not be possible. For these students, transferring to another school may be an option (see below).

Transfers:
We have made contact with several natural health colleges to discuss trying to coordinate a transfer and/or test out program. All with whom we spoke were supportive, asked for time to think about logistics, and said that they would get back in touch with us.

We will post another update when we have more information.

If you thought our board was vicious, those three-name and hyphenated gals who post on the CCNH Facebook group are really making us look like lightweights.  Hell hath no fury....

Here's some of the photos posted there:

More from one of the posters there:

Quote:IMPORTANT UPDATE ON REFUNDS-NOT GOOD!!

I spoke with Annette McGrady from the Alabama Office of Postsecondary Education today July 22, 2010. I asked her about Clayton and refunds. She said the students would ONLY be refunded ONE SEMESTER of classes!! I told her that THE MAJORITY OF STUDENTS paid their TUITION UPFRONT well in the THOUSANDS...$3,500-$11,000 or more. She asked WHY?? AS IF WE WERE STUPID. THEN she CORRECTED herself politely. I said BECAUSE we trusted CLAYTON COLLEGE that had been open 30 years with a STRONG reputation in the HOLISTIC HEALING WORLD, a very reputable academic staff and adjunct professors like Patch Addams and well known graduates like Linda Page, Ann Louise Gittleman (that transferred from Columbia University) and Gloria Gilbere and I had been offered a scholarship as part of the deal that reduced my tuition.
SHE THEN SYMPATHIZED A BIT WITH ME and YOU. I asked her what SHE THINKS HAPPENED TO THE ESTIMATED $15,000,000 ( 3,000x$5,000 average per student). SHE DID NOT KNOW....and ADDED that is not HER DEPT'S JURISDICTION but is UP TO THE COURTS TO DECIDE. She told me that the school was getting the Dept. of Education accreditation and everything had been moving along smoothly until CCNH was told that they were NO LONGER ALLOWED to ASK FOR FULL TUITION UPFRONT. AFTER THAT they MYSTERIOUSLY SHUT DOWN.

Another good one from one of the CCNH Facebook page posters:

Marie Tudisco Wrote:John Bear is full of crap. In his early books he promoted the then American College of Holistic Nuutrition before he became involved with his own accredited school. Dead men tell no tales. I was reading a post on here where someone called the state and spoke to woman in charge and she said everything was going fine with the accreditation and it was a mystery to why they were closing.

See also related link: Bear Pimped Mills for Pay

Bear used to take a "consulting fee" for pimping Clayton college to unsuspecting students, according to the poster.  Bear's claim that the "discussions ended" seems unlikely, unless he means they ended when he found out he wasn't going to get any more money off the deal.

Teachout info now posted at the CCNH website.  Still no word yet on transfers, which are supposedly in the wind as well.

Quote:July 30, 2010

As recently announced we are beginning a teach-out program so that we can work with as many of you as possible to complete your terms or programs, or to help provide you with transfer information. Students eligible for teach-out fall into the following categories:

I. Students in the College’s “Term” Model of Enrollment
These are students who enrolled on April 28, 2009 or later, and are currently in a term which they have not yet completed. We anticipate being able to teach-out all students who are in open terms.

Regarding finances, if you have a balance due for your current term, payment of that balance will be required at the end of your term. Verification of course completion will be available in your “My CCNH” account. Unofficial transcripts may also be obtained at this location.

If you are a program student and wish to be taught out, please download and complete the “CCNH Student Teach-Out Form” and mail it to:
Clayton College of Natural Health
P.O. Box 2488
Birmingham, AL 35201

After submitting your completed teach-out form, please feel free to begin submitting work (don’t hesitate to submit coursework with your Teach-Out Form), also to the post office box referenced above, immediately.

The deadline for submission of coursework for term students is November 30, 2010.

II. Students in the “Annual Enrollment Program (AEP)” Model of Enrollment
These are also students who enrolled on April 28, 2009 or later, and are currently in a term which they have not yet completed. We anticipate being able to teach-out all AEP students who are in open terms.

If you have enrolled in, and have paid for courses in terms that will follow your current, open term, we will be able to teach you out proportionate to what you have already paid for your coursework. Here are some examples of how this will work:

a) Following the completion of your current term, if you have two more courses as part of your AEP, and you have already paid for those courses in full, we will teach-out both of those courses;
b) Following the completion of your current term, if you have two more courses as part of your AEP, and you have paid for 50% of those courses, we will teach-out one of those courses;
c) Following the completion of your current term, if you have two or more courses as part of your AEP, and you have made no payments toward those courses, you will not be eligible for teach-out, and we invite you to review transfer information which will be posted on the “CCNH Information Clearinghouse” sometime soon.

If you are a program student and wish to be taught out, please download and complete the “CCNH Student Teach-Out Form” and mail it to:
Clayton College of Natural Health
P.O. Box 2488
Birmingham, AL 35201

After submitting your completed teach-out form (don’t hesitate to submit coursework with your Teach-Out Form), please feel free to begin submitting work, also to the post office box referenced above, immediately. The deadline for submission of coursework for term students is November 30, 2010.

III. Students in the College’s “Program” Model of Enrollment
These are students who enrolled in a program on or before April 27, 2009 and are eligible to continue their studies in the teach-out plan. The time frame for this teach-out is limited, with a January 31, 2011 deadline for submission of coursework (not including PhD dissertations).

Students who are able to complete their degree program through this coursework will be graduated and will receive a diploma, provided that no balance is due on your account. If you have a balance due for your program, payment of that balance must be made before graduation can be finalized. Students with a balance due will be billed, in one lump sum, at the end of their program. We ask that you not make payments over the course of your teach-out.

Please note:
Study guides will be available only through PDF documents, and students will be required to procure their own textbooks (through sources such as Amazon.com). Consultation on coursework or other academic issues will be extremely limited.

We will do our best to assist as many of you as possible throughout the teach-out program. Thank you for your patience in this process.

Those of you who have recently submitted payments via check to CCNH, please note that we are voiding the check sent for your student payment. If you are participating in the Teach-Out program and still owe monies, accounts will be settled after your Teach-Out is finished and before we issue credit for your course completion and/or Diploma/Certificate.

Transfers Update
We are working out details on transfer and/or test out programs with other natural health colleges and will post another update when we have additional information.

From the ACCS website:

Quote:UPDATE ON CLAYTON COLLEGE OF NATURAL HEALTH, August 9th, 2010:

Representatives from Clayton College of Natural Health have contacted the Department regarding the CCNH website. The website is down due to hardware failure. The expectation time to repair the server is noon Tuesday, August, 10, 2010. CCNH is hopeful that students may resume the teach out plan at that time. Updates will be made available as the Department receives them.

"Hardware failure"??  As in "we just sold the server and it's on a truck out of town"?

Gotta give the CCNH students some credit for keeping up the good fight in the face of a very adverse situation.
