I have heard of Charter Oak School and from what I understand its a legitimate school.

Still something is strange when you can pretty much get something that it takes some students years to earn.

I find it odd that a school like Breyer State which many claim takes conciderable effort to get a degree at is not accredited and labeled a Mill by many and programs like these are given a clean bill of health.

That post by Lawrie Miller is from back in 2001.  Do the Easy 3 still follow these procedures?

Agree that Breyer State or Canyon College have far more rigorous requirements than just sitting for a GRE.  Typical of the meaningless joke that accreditation has become.  It's not what they do that counts, it's who is doing it.  That's just plain old elitism, not any sort of academic standard.

How is it at all legitimate to earn 30 undergraduate credits based on a single multiple choice test? And if I'm reading that thread right it's possible to earn an advanced degree based on a single GRE test.

Not only that, but check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ed0NZZ7Z...re=related

The vocab words on the GRE read like something out of a fifth grade spelling list. Recede? Encapsulate? Give me a freaking break.

Lets go over that Diploma Mill checklist:

Can the degree be earned in a very short time? Check.
Too few assignments necessary to earn a degree? Check
Focus on credit for work or life experience? Check
Little or no interaction with faculty members? Check

Seems to fit the bill to me.

It says much about the society at large to which that is directed. I watched the videos hoping to learn new words, but overall there were maybe 2 I either didn't know, or hadn't heard in ages. Pretty lame.

When Regional Accredited colleges (the supposed "gold standard" in higher education) award advanced degrees for under three hours of shoddy coursework, is it a wonder why no one knows what a diploma mill is and is not?

Think of all those years you spent fritted away in the classroom, when all you really had to do was take a single multiple choice test.

The next time you hear Contreras or whomever jumping up and down about "diploma mills," please remind him that RA institutes are doing exactly the same thing.

The incredibly sad part is that anyone reading that thread I linked is probably thinking "I want my degree in under three hours..."

Even inside the most famous universities there are degree mills. Instead of a valid credit card number, all they ask for is that you are "diverse enough"... Pedro going to bed with Barney qualifies...Leroy's cranial morphology does as well... Joe's utterance of sparse quotes from cultural Marxism he couldn't put in context if his life depended on it will be worth tenure in a few years...he isn't even required to sit a 3h exam, or to master stupid words coming from other languages he ignores...hate, bigot, atrocity, oppression, Hitler...I think fifty words will suffice...
Long ago on a site replete with such semi-literate buffoons with an attitude that puts Arnold's 1980s movies to shame, they were discussing some catchy political aphorism that first appeared in western thought in Parmenides...but all the frauds could come up with was some XVIII century figure; it's like buttressing a Ph.D proposal with Woody Allen's or Warhol's aphorisms...
