Hi BGT,
I am surprised that you have never heard of the International College of Hotel Management Incorporated in Adelaide.
It is one of the best diploma mills ever devised (except for the fact that it lost 1.8 million dollars of taxpayers' money). One of the clever people behind it is none other than former a.e.d. and degreeinfo.com contributor George Brown. George Brown used to run a site www.virtualuniversities.net is which he had a guide on how to spot a degree mill.
Unfortunately for George Brown, when the criteria (such as operating from a PO Box, being an incorporated company, allowing life experience credits and allowing graduation entirely online) were applied to the ICHM where he worked, it was rated as a DEGREE MILL. This was according to George Brown's own criteria which he had used for years to label other institutions degree mills.
This was unfortunate as George Brown was being groomed as the heir apparent to Dr John Bear who had to disappear as well after his honety was called into question, links with degree mills exposed along with his penchant for prostitutes. Most supporters of George Brown and John Bear have been exposed as sexual deviants, perverts, felons and racists.
It turns out that George Brown, as the "online content manager" at the ICHM, was selling 26 week bachelor degrees to draft dodging Asians for $11,500 completely against the rules. This was in addition to the dressing up of cheap TAFE courses that were sold on as degrees in the same way.
A clear death threat was issued online to a poster called Benny advising him to "get over it or die". This is the SECOND time George Brown has been involved with issuing death threats online.
The long and the short of it is that www.virtualuniversities.net
disappeared, George Brown disappeared the .com, .com.au and the .edu websites of the ICHM disappeared and an investigation was launched into the activities of the ICHM in general and George Brown in particular.
George Brown has been "helping police with their enquiries" and has recently been allowed out. The enquiries center around the loss of $1.8 million dollars of public money caused by incompetent management covered up with fraudulent accounting. The South Australian Government was conned by George Brown and some dodgy convicted felons into backing the scheme with promises of huge returns that could only ever have happened if the ICHM broke its own rules. The loss of $1.8 million dollars was the direct result.
Revised versions of the ICHM sites have been restored and on his release George Brown erected a home page to replace the ERROR:404 OBJECT NOT FOUND message which was there for two months.
Questions in this newsgroup, and one on degreeinfo.com asking George Brown to post up and explain himself, or even to post up and deny the allegations have gone unanswered.
Currently the only poster to challenge the above accusations is "nobody" at xganon.com.
A small point to note. This newsgroup used to be plagued by spam postings through an anonimizer which would swing into action whenever George Brown was criticised. They all used to start "What a Buffoon I have been...".
When George Brown disappeared, so did the anonymous poster.
Coincidence?
Go to googlegroups (deja.com) and type in a few key words from the above explanation and you will see what I mean.

HigherEd Consulting has been appointed as the Australasian principal evaluator for the Office of Degree Authorisation, State of Oregon, United States of America
The degreeinfo/discussion board clique at its best.
Now let's turn the audio off while they're yelling abuse: let's ponder the following.
Some of the most prominent Nigeria degree mills had this in common: unbeknowst to the official authority & without any legislative intervention, some bureaucrat at the local higher education office would "let believe" that dodgy institution A, B or C was "accredited" or "registered" through said higher education office, commission, whatever.
At times they even had some low key bureaucrats at some embassy answering emails for "verification".
Said bureaucrats were on the payroll of such dodgy schools.
Now, if we read above, we see mr.Alan Contreras "lets believe" mr.George Brown is Oregon's official "degree evaluator" for AU & NZ.
Brown pushes the envelope further exactly as degree mills do & on his website he instantly becomes "appointed"...
hmm...
it sounds exactly like the dodgiest poste restante LA business, right?
Brown forgets to ask himself all those poignant and erudite questions he would any "school" not pimped by the clique.
In fact the use of the word "accredited" has a precise meaning.
So -in an hypothesis- Brown could "validate" one's Hawaii degree, and that would officially become a full fledged OREGON degree...right?
Oh, no...how do i ever think about it?
He is moral...he just cannot do harm...he didn't spot Thomas Chip White's porn core business in the open because of fervent free speech beliefs...
Again, same pattern as those Nigeria schemes.
Of course if we ask mr.Contreras, he'll just say what the busted african bureaucrats said: that he cannot "appoint" anyone. That due procedure of law hasn't been followed and anyways his intention was just to share information & to recommend one -among many- business he thought legitimate or useful.
Brown just tries to boost his unknown degree validation business misrepresenting its nature to potential buyers.
Same as degree mills do.
Someday he'll say his other cuisine-hospitality sites have been "accredited" as Oregon's official food catering service...but i bet souffles arrive on Contreras' table pretty bleak and coffee is ice cold, from way down in Australia.
Of course now they'll say i'm nit picking...but the devil is in the details, as they tell us over&over about subtilities, meaning of words etc.
Now this (as many others) post doesn't contain any far fetched conspiracy scheme; no profanity; nothing but a few facts, but they will still hide in terror and avoid confrontation.

I was actually surprised, but glad, to see that Wisconsin International University, for all the bad things that have been said in other forums, have an apparent articulation agreement with NA Schiller International University:
http://www.wiu-usa.edu/
"Wisconsin International University has an agreement with Schiller International University which has campuses in Florida (USA), England, France, Germany, Spain and Switzerland. Students from WIU may transfer their credits to any of these locations."
I admit that while the naming of the school is odd (considering the home office is in Florida and there is already an FIU) and the fact that the website is rather amateurish it's good to see this and I hope we can see more of it.
One of the most promising scenarios I've seen to date is Henderson State University will consider applicants with unaccredited degrees. This is most promising because HSU's business degrees are AACSB accredited and they now offer a 100% online MBA. The price: $12,000 (all-inclusive, minus textbooks). To me, THAT'S a steal!
http://www.hsu.edu/content.aspx?id=725
"An applicant from an unaccredited college who has satisfactory grades and a satisfactory program of undergraduate work may be admitted with an entrance condition of twelve semester hours. The student may remove this condition by earning a 3.00 grade point average on these twelve hours. If he/she presents acceptable graduate credit from another accredited graduate school, the twelve-hour requirement may be reduced by the amount of such credit."
Side note: It would seem, however, that HSU's online MBA does not yet have AACSB approval.
From Troy, to Henderson, to Ohio State, to Alcorn State, to Liberty, to Regent, to Idaho, to Seattle Pacific, to Michigan, to Cleveland State, to Auburn, to a handful in Oregon, to Indiana, the list goes on.. I'm glad to see there are acceptance for those people, myself included, who went against the grain, found a LEGITIMATE, bargain priced unaccredited institution* and went with it. I've had a much better, and more positive, experience than my time at AIU, Grantham, and Ashworth (combined).

tha above is what dr.Bear thinks of a certain "university".
That is not some made up message stuffed with profanities; not some three words quote from some trolling alias relying on undisclosed sources.
www.degreeinfo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=efc5734e79d589d0144c4d4eda105386&threadid=22439
the above thread focuses instead on the deceptive intentions of said "school", advocating lawsuits & being very critical.
Again mr. Bear on the same "school":
Quote:"John Bear: Don't even think of applying to Fairfax, unless you are comfortable with a degree whose use would be a criminal offense in New Jersey, Oregon, Illinois, etc." DEC 12, 2004

Well done dr. Bear...dependability is one of your most coveted assets.

Such higher morals...the very same person acting as deus ex machina to ban "nazis" and "degree mill shills" when solicited by the clique of keyboard sociopath, out of moral outrage, was also a gay teen porn king who
1 peddled his highly questionable gay teen porn empire in very graphic terms on queer boards
2 openly admitted to being a gay teen porn king in the sanctuary of high morals in higher education he owns & operates, where no "nazis" nor "shills" are allowed.

"The university was started with family in mind and continues with that today. In December we lost one of our 'family members'. Barbara Posthuma, our registrar, passed away at the age of 74. She started working at CCU as a temporary employee more than 26 years ago. She has gone through many changes over the years with the university, including the passing of the founder of the school, Thomas Neal Sr. and the achievement of DETC Accreditation.
Barbara was a great spirit who enjoyed working with our students and enjoyed seeing them succeed throughout their careers. The time she spent with each and every student was very precious to her and she took great pride in helping students.
Brabara left behind 6 children and many great-grandchildren. The family at California Coast University is still at a loss with her sudden passing. However, we do know she thought of us as her family as we did her.
--California Coast University-April 2007
I just wanted to contrast this wonderful lady with those we often see at the DL forums and their constant self promotion. Thomas Neal and family, along with people like Barbara Posthuma, and others, are the real DL experts. They are the ones who build and create schools, find people in need of education and provide answers. With all the self promoters we have running around screaming their own names and pleading for us to please send money, it's nice to see the real experts like Barbara and Tom. They got up early every single day, went to work, and created things and ideas. They made schools like CCU work, which allowed adults who missed out on college degrees to get another chance at education via DL. It's true that Barbara and Tom were not household names but they were true DL experts. And they learned about DL not by listening to themselves brag and chatter, but by going to work at a fine DL school each day for week after week, month after month, and year after year. They spent more time on DL in a year than many of the so-called experts have in their entire lives.
That's how it is done by the real experts, day after day, all year long. They know what a DL degree will do because they actually do it and see it. They are the real experts. We don't often hear their real names or stories, they get drowned out by the people who are busy shouting their own names and giving us their addresses to send them our money, but real experts are out there, you just have to look beyond the people shouting. They don't have time for all the self-promotion we so often see. They are too busy doing DL and not talking it. They have been in this thing for the long haul. These are the people I would speak to and trust, not the ones who are in and out, like this today and like that tomorrow. They have earned the right to be called DL experts by others. As was said by CCU, they will be missed.
