Klempner has been in grudge mode against Anaheim honcho Anthony Al-Jamie for literally decades:
Quote:John Bear
Mar 24 1999 12:00 am
Ad in the Chronicle of Higher Education this week (March 26, page A69) for The Distance Learning Center, which is putting on "Asia's Largest and Most Prestigious Academic Conference and University Fair" next September.
The website (www.distance-learning.org) turns out to be run to Anthony Al-Jamie, who has a close affiliation with Newport Asia Pacific University, the unaccredited entity apparently started by some Kensington University administrators after Kensington was closed down by the state of California.
Al-Jamie is a master of the art of -- well, what is the name for what happens when a child says to his father, "Can I go to the movies," and Dad says, "Only if your mother says it is OK," and then the child goes to the mother and says, "Dad says I can go to the movies; is it OK with you?" and so on.
Al-Jamie somehow secured the Heriot-Watt MBA agency for Japan. After the university heard from people who answered a Heriot-Watt ad but were recruited by Newport Asia Pacific, they apparently decided not to renew his contract.
Now, if we are to believe the ad, this conference is endorsed by the US Embassy, the British Council, the Australian Embassy, and the Embassy of Canada, as well as sponsored by AT&T, Time Inc., and Coca-Cola, all for the greater glory of Newport Asia Pacific University.
It would seem there is nothing illegal going on here, just a classic case of 'working the system.'
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.educa...985e770583
Time to work it out of your system, Klempner. Al-Jamie has achieved something you never could: successfully operating a legit, accredited, respected university.

Anthony Al-Jamie gloats as Bear agonizes over another ignominious defeat.

Who Killed Janko?

Janko? Realizing that even with a ThD he will never be significant enough to make the DL Truth Hall of Shame, Janko commits suicide.
Gollin? Using the advanced research methods he heard 15 of his friends used in writing his dissertation for him, Gollin connects the dots and concludes that pranksters posting on the internet as "John Hudson-Weaver" are really John Weaver-Hudson. An enraged Gollin asks his wife to return his manly parts and then gets her permission to whack Janko.
Peter French? Hires well-endowed ex-convict to urinate in Janko's gas tank. Unfortunately the prank goes tragically awry as the convict decides to whack Janko instead and blackmail Peter.
WELS? Under Janko's shrewd management Hope church congregation membership drops precipitously from 88 to 60. That's a huge 31.82% decline, according to John "4.0 In His Stats Courses"? Bear. When Janko won't resign, WELS administration loses patience and has him whacked.
Chip? Tired of Janko PMing all the degreeinfo.com members to tell them they are posting on a website owned and operated by a gay boy pornographer and pedophile pandering pervert, Chip sticks a banana in Janko's tailpipe--then sabotages his car.
Jimmy? Driven mad by years of sucking up to people inferior to him in every way, Jimmy uses his master locksmithing skills to surreptitiously enter Janko's car, puts chloroform in the heating system.
Jilted WCTU members?' Heartbroken when the noble Janko declines to give them his virginity outside the bonds of marriage, WCTU members (some of whom are women) conspire to have him whacked.
Dixie? Criminal mastermind carves a gun from a bar of soap, escapes from federal prison, commandeers a Hummer, holds up a liquor store, drives undetected cross country, crashes into Janko's car, then returns to prison before roll call.
Klempner? He really hates Christians.
Gus? Frustrated by being marginalized on his own website and intimidated by Janko's 12-year doctorate (equivalent of nearly 40 110-day TESC humanities degrees), Gus hires a team of Bay of Pigs refugees to blow up Janko's car. Unfortunately refugees are now 70 years old and manage only to wire a cherry bomb to his radio, succeeding only because Janko hits a moose crossing the interstate.
Janko's parents? We wanted him to go to dental school, but no, he has to be Calvin Luther, spending all our tuition money on useless divinity degrees--then takes a vow of poverty while we live on social security, the ungrateful putz.
Who cares? In six weeks no one will even remember him.

Did Gus even bother to come out of his self-imposed exile to say a few words about Unc's passing? No, of course not; what a shallow POS and classless phony Gus has shown himself to be. Uncle Janko built Gus' forum on the back of his 4500+ posts and el jefe can't take the time to post anything.
This marks a new low for Gus. It's one thing to take credit for things you didn't do, to engage in character assassination and smear attacks, to "out" people, and a whole bunch of other ugly activities that seemingly did on a daily basis, but it's another thing to ignore the premature passing of an erstwhile comrade. Since Gus couldn't take the time to say something about Uncle Janko, let me take to opportunity to say a few words to my long-time adversary Gus Sainz for whom I have lost all respect:
Fuck you, asshole!!!

Self-designed curriculum

As far as I know, most universities that provides degrees for “life experiences” are bogus.
Is this also true for universities that offer “self-designed” curriculums?
I do not have any particular university in mind at the moment.
The ones I have encountered though so far seem substandard even for unaccredited institutions. The only exception might be Rushmore. I haven’t quite made up my mind on that one yet. (The “dissertations” that I have been reading, and the books several of the students have cited as references, seem quite low-standard, but maybe it is possible to adjust that variable yourself, i.e. that you choose to read books that are of a certain quality and difficulty)
The question rephrased:
Are there any universities – accredited or unaccredited – that offers self-designed curriculums, and that also have some merit.
(The underlying reason for this question is that – at least in theory – a more or less self-designed curriculum may provide the student with a competitive advantage towards companies that are in need of some kind of specialization.)

--------------------------------------------------
Michael Secrest was ecstatic when he discovered he could stay at home, keep his job and earn an advanced biology degree so he could become a professor.
The Blanchester man submitted his application for a Ph.D. in conservation biology to the Union Institute & University in Walnut Hills and it was accepted. He enrolled in December 2002.
"It was great. I could work on the weekends and in the evening and I had the summers to work on it," Secrest said.
Secrest, 57, did the original research required for the Ph.D. - the impact of biodiversity management in three areas in Southwest Ohio - but never got the degree.
That's because, Secrest contends in a Hamilton County lawsuit, the school was never accredited to offer such a degree.
After he spent five years and $80,000 in tuition, the school informed Secrest it didn't offer a Ph.D. in conservation biology despite telling him for years it did, his lawsuit contends
-----------------------------------------------
Wasn't this about the time the Ohio Board of Regents, the US Dept of Education, and the Northcentral Association were taking an elephant crap on Union. According to Secrest they retrofitted his program to match what they were actually approved to offer.
I bet he's glad he went to a regionally accredited school.

Dissertations - Angry, slow-working people

Based on different threads on different boards, I get the impression that the general opinion is that the more years you use on your dissertation the better it is.
I do not at all share this opinion. In fact, I find it rather strange.
If one uses 4-10 year on a dissertation, then - heck - that dissertation should be a masterpiece, and nothing but a masterpiece.
If I were to devote 7 years, for example, to write a dissertation, then that dissertation probably would have several thousand pages. In fact; I would feel a litte ashamed, because I would feel that I was working to slow. But that's just me.
How is that for conversion to working life?
Boss: Hello employee. Can you help me with some of the work that is lying around on my desk.
Employee: Sure thing, boss. I'll look it over, and come back to you in 2-3 years.
No offence. All honour to those who work a long time and produce a good dissertation, but it is - as I see it - nothing to BRAG about.
That's some kind of twisted logic.
Student 1: Hello, I just finished my dissertation. Took me 8 years.
Student 2: ONLY 8 years. That must be a lousy dissertation. I used 11 years.
The ridicule that is going on about people that produce their dissertation in 1-3 years is, as I see it, nonsense.
If you are effective and efficient - two key principles at least in the business world - than you can, as I see it, produce a very good dissertation in 1-3 years.
