  Perv Al Fields Questions
Posted by: Herbert Spencer - 06-27-2008, 07:26 AM - Forum: Alan Contreras - Replies (7)

Civil rights violator and pervert Alan Contreras believes "there is always a market for easy answers and tainted goods." Proving his own point, Gay Al will be providing easy answers about his tainted history of perversion and anti-Christian bigotry:

Quote:At the time The Chronicle's 2004 diploma-mill report appeared, we held an online discussion with Alan Contreras, who was and is administrator of the Office of Degree Authorization of the Oregon Student Assistance Commission, and a frequent contributor to The Chronicle. Now we've invited him back, to see if he still believes, as he said in that online chat, "there is always a market for easy answers and tainted goods." He will respond to questions and comments about these issues on Thursday, July 24, at 12 noon, U.S. Eastern time. Readers are welcome to post questions and comments now.

Mark your calendars for July 24, and you west coast slackers remember that's noon US Eastern time, so wake up early. Big Grin

Newport Int'l Loses Wyo Law Challenge

Court upholds 'diploma mill' law

Quote:By JOAN BARRON

Wednesday, June 25, 2008 11:28 AM MDT

CHEYENNE -- A law passed by the Legislature in 2006 to stiffen the requirements for private post-secondary educational institutions is constitutional, the Wyoming Supreme Court ruled today.

The uninamous opinion also upheld rules adopted by the Wyoming Department of Education to enforce the law.

The ruling came in a lawsuit filed by Newport International University against the Wyoming Department of Education and state Superintendent of Public Instruction Jim McBride.

The 2006 law, designed to discourage so-called "diploma mills," requires private, post-secondary, degree-granting institutions to become accredited within five years, to be licensed by the department and meet the department's minimum standards.

Newport International filed suit when the department rejected its renewal application.

WASC-accredited UCLA PhD Henry Samueli has pleaded gulity to lying to the feds.

Samueli joins the ranks of such convicts as former Enron honcho Kenneth Lay (PhD Economics, University of Houston) and Unabomber Theodore Kaczynski (PhD Mathematics, University of Michigan) as illustrious felons holding Regionally Accredited doctorates (the "Gold Standard" in education according to certain self-appointed "experts").

Broadcom Billionaire Admits Guilt; Henry Samueli Is Facing Probation And $12.2 Million In Fines For Lying About His Role In Stock-option Grants.

Question What to do with my unaccredited degree?
Posted by: Gabe - 06-23-2008, 11:01 AM - Forum: Unaccredited vs. State-Approved vs. Accredited - Replies (8)

Before I begin let me first admit & explain something: I was a regular poster at DI years ago and, while I tried to keep a balanced perspective, I seemed to lean more toward the "gang" than anyone else. However, time passed and ultimately thanks in part to a select few, I realized there is definitely NOT a once size fits all for education.

Now, with that out of the way here I go:

I undertook distance learning as a military member earning credits at RA and NA schools as well as taking CLEP in addition to the college credit I earned through military training. After getting out of the military and (stupidly) taking a break from school I ultimately decided to finish at Frederick Taylor University because I felt the credit transfer process was fair and the tuition a great bargain.

I knew full well what I was getting into and understood the potential for "limited utility", but I feel the quality of education I have received thus far (I only have two courses left) is sufficient and I have no regrets whatsoever about my decision.

So, I'm motivated to continue my studies and have since been looking at various MBA programs. FTU offers MBA's as well and although it'd be an easy transition a part of me wants something "fresh". I know most accredited schools require an accredited degree (many require RA). I realize there are exceptions such as Troy and a few others that have previously been listed over at DI.

What's one to do?

*I attempted a "negotiation" for lack of a better word with a for-profit NCA school and while they didn't give me an outright "NO" they simply stated "We don't have a guideline for such circumstances*

Alabama has some serious issues concerning the administration of their university licensing:

Just take out the big rubber stamp that says APPROVED. Done!

Come to think about it, we don't have inbred hillbillies here and our civil servants are just as ambitious.

  Douglas Libels DETC

Richard Coleman Douglas, a representative of the University of Leicester, posted the following at Degreediscussion, a site owned by failed Miami businessman, Gustavo Sainz

Re: COUPLE OF NEW DETC APPROVED SCHOOLS.

Postby Rich Douglas on Thu Jun 19, 2008 5:44 pm

It could be that a whole mess of formerly crummy schools have somehow cleaned up their acts to meet the rigorous standards of DETC. Or it could be that the DETC is making it possible for a bunch of still-crummy schools to get accredited. Or perhaps it is somewhere in between. I don' t know.

(NB: DETC accredits some wonderful schools. But if it also extends it accreditation to the unworthy, that harms all of its accredited members. Or, again, maybe all of these schools are now great (or good enough)
